Jack London «Nam-Bok the Unveracious» (18/20)

An hour passed, and a second (прошел один час и другой), and Nam-Bok slept (и Нам-Бок спал), and the talk went on (а разговор продолжался). The evening sun dipped toward the northwest (вечернее солнце склонилось к северо-западу; to dip — опускаться, спускаться; наклоняться), and at eleven at night was nearly due north (а в одиннадцать ночи почти прибыло на север; due — должный, обязанный; ожидаемый). Then it was that the head man and the bone-scratcher separated themselves from the council and aroused Nam-Bok He blinked up into their faces and turned on his side to sleep again Opee-Kwan gripped him by the arm терминах плечо с предплечьем/) and kindly but firmly shook his senses back into him (и доброжелательно, но твердо встряхнул его, чтобы привести снова в сознание; senses — разум, сознание; to shake — трясти, встряхивать).

"Come, Nam-Bok, arise (давай, Нам-Бок, вставай)!" he commanded (скомандовал он). "It be time (пора)."

"Another feast (еще один пир)?" Nam-Bok cried (воскликнул Нам-Бок). "Nay, I am not hungry (нет, я не голоден). Go on with the eating and let me sleep (продолжайте есть и дайте мне поспать)."

"Time to be gone (пора уходить)!" Koogah thundered (проговорил громогласно Куга; to thunder — говорить громогласно, громко; thunder — гром).

But Opee-Kwan spoke more softly "Thou west bidarka-mate with me when we were boys (ты был напарником по байдарке со мной = моим напарником в байдарке, когда мы были мальчиками)," he said. "Together we first chased the seal and drew the salmon from the traps (вместе мы впервые охотились на тюленя и вытаскивали лососей из ловушек). And thou didst drag me back to life, Nam-Bok (и ты, Нам-Бок, вытащил меня назад = вернул меня к жизни), when the sea closed over me and I was sucked down to the black rocks (когда море сомкнулось надо мной, и меня затянуло вниз к черным скалам; to suck — сосать; всасывать, втягивать). Together we hungered and bore the chill of the frost (мы вместе голодали и переносили холодную морозную погоду; chill — холод; холодная погода), and together we crawled beneath the one fur and lay close to each other (и вместе мы заползали под одну меховую шкуру и лежали рядом друг с другом; to lie — лежать).

And because of these things, and the kindness in which I stood to thee (и из-за этого и доброты, в которой я пребывал = которую я испытывал /по отношению/ к тебе; to stand to — держаться чего-либо; поддерживать что-либо), it grieves me sore (я до боли огорчен; to grieve — огорчать, глубоко опечаливать; sore — страдающий, испытывающий душевную боль; страдающий духовно и душевно; вызывающий боль, страдание; мучительный) that thou shouldst return such a remarkable liar (что ты вернулся таким поразительным лгуном; to lie — лгать). We cannot understand (мы не можем понять), and our heads be dizzy with the things thou hast spoken (и у нас головы идут кругом от того, что ты наговорил; dizzy — испытывающий/чувствующий головокружение; to speak — говорить, сказать). It is not good (это нехорошо), and there has been much talk in the council (и на совете много говорили). Wherefore we send thee away (оттого мы прогоняем тебя; to send away — высылать; прогонять), that our heads may remain clear and strong and be not troubled by the unaccountable things (чтобы наши головы остались ясными и сильными, и необеспокоенными необъяснимыми вещами = и чтобы их не беспокоили необъяснимые вещи; to account — давать отчет; объяснять; account — счет; отчет)."
