They were satisfied with the king's word (они приняли королевские обещания: «были удовлетворены королевским словом»; word — слово; обещание, слово), and next day took the road to Erin (и на следующий день выехали на дорогу: «взяли дорогу», /ведущую/ в Ирландию), and kept on their way (и продолжали свой путь /до тех пор/) till they came opposite the grave-yard (пока они не приехали /до места, расположенного/ напротив кладбища). Then Shaking-head said to the king's son (тогда Качающаяся голова сказал королевскому сыну), "You are no good (вы ни на что не годны; good — добро, благо; польза; to be no good — быть ни на что не годным, быть пустым местом), you have never told me a story (вы ни разу не рассказали мне /ни одной/ истории; never — никогда; /эмоц.-усил./ ни разу) since the first day I saw you (с самого первого дня, когда я вас увидел)."
They were satisfied with the king's word, and next day took the road to Erin, and kept on their way till they came opposite the grave-yard. Then Shaking-head said to the king's son: "You are no good, you have never told me a story since the first day I saw you."
"I have but one story to tell you (у меня есть всего одна история, которую я могу рассказать тебе), except what happened since we met (за исключением того, что случилось с тех пор, как мы встретились)."
"Well, tell me what happened before we met (что ж, тогда расскажите мне, что произошло до того, как мы встретились)."
"I have but one story to tell you, except what happened since we met."
"Well, tell me what happened before we met."
"I was passing this place before I saw you (я проходил мимо этого места перед тем, как я увидел тебя)," said the king's son, "and four men were fighting over a coffin (и четверо мужчин дрались над гробом). I spoke to them (я заговорил с ними), and two of them said they were burying the body of their brother (и двое из них сказали, что они хоронят тело своего брата; body — тело, плоть; труп, тело) which was in the coffin (которое лежит: «было» в гробу), and the others said the dead man owed them five pounds (а другие /мужчины/ сказали, что мертвец: «мертвый человек» должен им пять фунтов), and they wouldn't let the coffin into the ground (и они не позволят опустить гроб в могилу до тех пор) until they got the money (пока они не получат деньги). I paid five pounds (я заплатил пять фунтов) and the body was buried (и тело было захоронено)."

"It was my body was in the coffin," said Shaking-head, "and I came back into this world to do you a good turn; and now I am going, and you'll never see me again unless trouble is on you."
Shaking-head disappeared (Качающаяся голова исчез), and the king's son went home (а королевский сын поехал домой). He wasn't with his father long (он не долго пробыл у своего отца: «со своим отцом») till the other three kings' sons heard (когда другие три королевича узнали: «услышали») he had come back to Erin with the daughter of King Behind the Gold (что он вернулся в Ирландию с дочерью Короля /страны по ту сторону/ Золота). They sent word, saying (они отправили /ему/ известие, сообщая), "We'll take the head off you now (теперь мы обезглавим тебя: «мы снесем голову с тебя сейчас»), and put an end to your father and yourself (и истребим твоего отца и тебя: «положим конец твоему отцу и тебе самому»)."
Shaking-head disappeared, and the king's son went home. He wasn't with his father long till the other three kings' sons heard he had come back to Erin with the daughter of King Behind the Gold. They sent word, saying, "We'll take the head off you now, and put an end to your father and yourself."
