Next morning the giant was up at an early hour (на следующее утро великан встал рано: «в ранний час»), and he went to the bed-side of each man (он подошел к кровати каждого юноши: «мужчины»; bed — кровать, постель; side — бок, сторона; место рядом; bed-side — место у кровати, у постели) and told him to rise and have breakfast (и сказал ему подниматься и позавтракать; to rise — вставать /на ноги/, подниматься; вставать /после сна/). Shaking-head asked his reward of the giant (Качающаяся голова потребовал награду от великана; to ask — спрашивать; просить; требовать) for telling him of the champions of Erin (за то, что рассказал ему об отважных воинах Ирландии) and the danger he was in (и той опасности, в которой он находился).

"Well (что ж)," said the giant, "there's a pot of gold over there under my bed (вот там, под моей кроватью, есть горшок золота); take as much out of it as ever you wish, and welcome (пожалуйста, возьми из него столько, сколько пожелаешь: «возьми так много из него, как только ты пожелаешь, и пожалуйста; welcome — желанный, долгожданный; имеющий право или разрешение сделать что-л., воспользоваться чем-л.)."
"It isn't gold I want for my service (не золота я хочу за свою услугу; service — служба; услуга, одолжение)," said Shaking-head, "you have a gift (у тебя есть один подарок) which suits me better (который мне больше подходит)."
"What gift is that (и что это за подарок)?" asked the giant (спросил великан).
"Well," said the giant, "there's a pot of gold over there under my bed; take as much out of it as ever you wish, and welcome."
"It isn't gold I want for my service," said Shaking-head, "you have a gift which suits me better."
"What gift is that?" asked the giant.
"The light black steed in your stable (бледно-вороной конь в твоей конюшне; light — светлый; светло-, бледно-; black — черный; вороной /о лошади/)."
"That's a gift I won't give you (это подарок, который я тебе не дам)," said the giant, "for when any one comes to trouble or attack me (потому что, когда кто-нибудь приходит, чтобы побеспокоить или напасть на меня), all I have to do (все, что мне надо сделать) is to throw my leg over that steed (так это вскочить на этого коня: «это бросить мою ногу через того коня»), and away he carries me out of sight of every enemy (и он уносит меня прочь от любого врага: «из поля зрения каждого врага»; sight — зрение; поле зрения, предел видимости)."

"That's a gift I won't give you," said the giant, "for when any one comes to trouble or attack me, all I have to do is to throw my leg over that steed, and away he carries me out of sight of every enemy."
"Well (что ж)," said Shaking~head, "if you don't give me that steed (если ты не отдашь мне того боевого коня) I'll bring all the kingdom of Erin against you (я приведу все королевство Ирландии против тебя), and you'll be destroyed with all you have (и ты будешь уничтожен со всем своим имуществом: «со всем, чем ты владеешь»)."
"Well," said Shaking-head, "if you don't give me that steed I'll bring all the kingdom of Erin against you, and you'll be destroyed with all you have."
The giant stopped a moment, and said (великан запнулся на мгновение и сказал; to stop — останавливать; останавливаться, замолчать, делать паузу, перерыв), "I believe you'd do that thing (я полагаю, что ты это сделаешь: «ты сделаешь ту вещь»; to believe — верить; думать, полагать, считать; thing — вещь, предмет; нечто, что-то), so you may take the steed (поэтому ты можешь взять коня)." Then Shaking-head took the steed of the giant (тогда Качающаяся голова взял коня великана), gave him to the king's son (отдал его королевскому сыну), and away they went (и они двинулись дальше: «и прочь они пошли»).
The giant stopped a moment, and said, "I believe you'd do that thing, so you may take the steed." Then Shaking-head took the steed of the giant, gave him to the king's son, and away they went.
