They played (они сыграли): the young man won (молодой человек выиграл; to win /won/ — выигрывать, побеждать), and went home (и ушел домой: to go /went, gone/ — идти, ходить) the better for two estates (обогащенный двумя имениями: «/став/ лучше на два имения»; good /better, the best/ — хороший /лучше, самый лучший/). He was very glad (он был очень рад), and hurried to tell his father (и поспешил рассказать своему отцу) the luck he had (о той удаче, которая ему выпала: «которую он имел»; luck — судьба, случай; везенье, удача, успех).
Next day he went to the same place (на следующий день он пошел на то же самое место: «к тому же месту»), and didn't wait long (и ему не пришлось долго ждать: «и не ждал долго») till the giant came again (пока великан /не/ пришел снова; to come /came, come/ — приходить).
They played: the young man won, and went home the better for two estates. He was very glad, and hurried to tell his father the luck he had.
Next day he went to the same place, and didn't wait long till the giant came again.
"Welcome, king's son (добро пожаловать, королевский сын)," said the giant. "What shall we play for today (на что мы будем играть сегодня)?"
"I'll leave that to yourself (я оставлю /выбор/ за тобой: «я предоставлю то тебе самому»; to leave /left/ — оставлять)," answered the young man (ответил молодой человек).
"Well (хорошо)," said the giant, "I have five hundred bullocks (у меня есть: «я имею» пять сотен волов) with golden horns (с золотыми рогами) and silver hoofs (и серебряными копытами), and I'll play them (и я ставлю их: «буду играть их») against as many cattle (против такого же количества: «столько же многого» скота) belonging to you (принадлежащего тебе)."
"Agreed (по рукам!: «договорились»; to agree — соглашаться, сходиться во мнениях; уславливаться, договариваться; agreed! — /разг./ решено! по рукам!)," said the king's son (сказал королевский сын).
"Welcome, king's son," said the giant. "What shall we play for today?"
"I'll leave that to yourself," answered the young man.
"Well," said the giant, "I have five hundred bullocks with golden horns and silver hoofs, and I'll play them against as many cattle belonging to you."
"Agreed," said the king's son.
They played (они сыграли). The giant lost again (великан снова проиграл; to lose /lost/ — терять; проигрывать). He had the cattle brought to the place (ему пригнали скот к тому месту; to have smth. done — велеть, приказать сделать что-л. для себя; to bring /brought/ — приносить, приводить); and the king's son went home (и королевский сын отправился домой; to go /went, gone/ — идти, ходить) with the five hundred bullocks (с пятьюстами волами). The king his father was outside watching (король, его отец, был на улице: «снаружи», поджидая /сына/; outside — снаружи; на улице, вне дома, помещения и т.п.; to watch — наблюдать, следить; поджидать, выжидать, высматривать), and was more delighted than the day before (и был /еще/ более обрадован, чем накануне: «чем /в/ день до этого»; delight — восторг, восхищение, удовольствие; to delight — восхищать, услаждать) when he saw the drove of beautiful cattle (когда он увидел стадо великолепного скота; drove — гурт, стадо; to drive /drove, driven/ — везти, перевозить; гнать; beautiful — прекрасный, красивый; превосходный, великолепный) with horns of gold (с рогами из золота) and hoofs of silver (и копытами из серебра).
They played. The giant lost again. He had the cattle brought to the place; and the king's son went home with the five hundred bullocks. The king his father was outside watching, and was more delighted than the day before when he saw the drove of beautiful cattle with horns of gold and hoofs of silver.
