So taking his wife and children (тогда, взяв свою жену и детей), he left the East and travelled to Erin (он покинул царство Востока и отправился в путешествие в Ирландию). When the stepmother heard the news (когда мачеха услышала эту весть; to hear /heard/), a great weakness came on her (ее охватила сильная слабость: «нашла на нее»; great — большой, огромный, громадный; большой, сильный, колоссальный, огромный /о чувствах, состояниях, свойствах и т.п./). She fell into a fit (с ней случился припадок: «она впала в припадок»; to fall /fell, fallen/ — падать; приходить, впадать в какое-л. состояние) and died (и умерла).

So taking his wife and children, he left the East and travelled to Erin. He stopped on the road, and sent word to the father that he was coming.

When the stepmother heard the news, a great weakness came on her. She fell into a fit and died.

The king's son waited in a convenient place (сын короля подождал в приличествующем: «удобном» месте) till the funeral was over (пока похороны /не/ были окончены), and then he came to the castle (и тогда он приехал в замок) and lived with his father (и стал жить со своим отцом). He was not long in the place (он недолго прожил в замке: «пробыл в том месте») when he sent messengers (когда он разослал глашатаев; to send /sent/) to know could they find the cowboy (чтобы узнать, смогут ли они отыскать того пастуха) that the stepmother banished for telling about the sleeping-pin (которого мачеха изгнала за то, что /он/ рассказал /принцу/ о сонной булавке). They brought the cowboy to the castle (пастуха привели в замок: «они привели пастуха в замок»; to bring /brought/ — приносить; приводить с собой), and the king made him his coachman (и король назначил его своим кучером; to make /made/ — делать, изготовлять; назначать /на должность/, производить /в чин/; coach — карета, экипаж; man — мужчина, человек; слуга; coachman — кучер).

The king's son waited in a convenient place till the funeral was over, and then he came to the castle and lived with his father. He was not long in the place when he sent messengers to know could they find the cowboy that the stepmother banished for telling about the sleeping-pin. They brought the cowboy to the castle, and the king made him his coachman.

The cowboy was not twelve months in his new place (пастух и года не провел на новом месте: «не был двенадцати месяцев…») before he married (прежде чем женился). Then the king's son gave him a fine piece of land to live on (тогда королевский сын подарил ему прекрасный надел земли для жизни: «чтобы жить на /нем/»; to give /gave, given/; piece — кусок, часть; участок), with six cows and four horses (/а еще/ шесть коров и четыре лошади: «с шестью коровами и…»). There was not a happier man in the kingdom (и не было во /всем/ королевстве человека счастливее) than the cowboy (чем этот пастух). When the father died (когда же отец умер), the king's son became king in Erin himself (королевский сын сам стал королем Ирландии).

The cowboy was not twelve months in his new place before he married. Then the king's son gave him a fine piece of land to live on, with six cows and four horses. There was not a happier man in the kingdom than the cowboy. When the father died, the king's son became king in Erin himself.
