The henwife put on the cloak of darkness (птичница надела плащ-невидимку: «плащ тьмы»), and asked for the robes and the mare (и попросила такое одеяние и такую кобылу; to ask — спрашивать; просить). That moment she had them (в то же мгновение она их получила их). When Trembling was dressed (когда Трепещущая оделась; dress — платье, одежда; to dress — одеваться, наряжаться), the henwife put the honey-bird on her right shoulder (птичница посадила медовую птицу на ее правое плечо; to put — класть, ставить; ставить, помещать, размещать) and the honey-finger on her left (и /положила/ медовые соты: «медовый палец» на ее левое /плечо/). The saddle on the mare was silver (седло на кобыле было серебряным), and so was the bridle (такой же была и уздечка).

When Trembling sat in the saddle and was going away (когда Трепещущая села в седло и уже собиралась уезжать; to sit /sat/), the henwife ordered her strictly (птичница строго приказала ей) not to go inside the door of the church (не входить в церковь: «не идти внутрь двери церкви»), but to rush away as soon as the people rose at the end of Mass (а умчаться: «броситься прочь» как только люди встанут по окончании мессы; to rush — бросаться, кидаться, мчаться, нестись; to rise /rose, risen/), and hurry home on the mare (и поспешить домой /верхом/ на кобыле) before any man could stop her (прежде, чем кто-нибудь сможет остановить ее: «любой человек мог бы остановить ее»).
When Trembling sat in the saddle and was going away, the henwife ordered her strictly not to go inside the door of the church, but to rush away as soon as the people rose at the end of Mass, and hurry home on the mare before any man could stop her.
That Sunday the people were more astonished than ever (в то воскресенье люди были удивлены как никогда: «были более удивлены, чем когда-либо»), and gazed at her more than the first time (и глазели на нее больше, чем в первый раз; time — время; раз, случай); and all they were thinking of was to know (и все, о чем они думали, было то, что /они хотели/ знать) who she was (кто она такая: «кем она была»). "What news have you today?" asked the henwife of the sisters when they came from the church.
"Oh, we saw the grand strange lady again (о, мы снова видели знатную незнакомую даму; grand — грандиозный, величественный; важный, знатный)! And it's little that any man could think of our dresses (и никто уже не сможет оценить наши платья: «и мало что любой человек мог бы подумать о наших платьях»; to think /thought/ — думать, размышлять; иметь /какое-л./ мнение; little — мало; to think little of smth. — быть дурного мнения о чем-л.; ни во что не ставить) after looking at the robes of satin (поглядев на то атласное одеяние: «после взгляда на одеяние из атласа») that she had on (которое было на ней)!
