The two sisters gave neither rest nor peace (две сестры не отставали: «не давали ни отдыха, ни покоя»; peace — мир; покой, спокойствие, тишина) till they got dresses (пока не раздобыли платья; to get /got/) as nearly like the strange lady's robes (настолько похожие на платья незнакомки: «незнакомой дамы») as they could find (насколько они смогли найти). Of course they were not so good (конечно, они не были столь же хороши); for the like of those robes could not be found in Erin (потому что похожих на те платья невозможно было отыскать во /всей/ Ирландии).

When the third Sunday came (когда наступило третье воскресенье; to come /came, come/ — приходить; наступать, приходить), Fair and Brown went to church dressed in black satin (Белокурая и Шатенка пошли в церковь, наряженные в черный атлас). They left Trembling at home to work in the kitchen (они оставили Трепещущую дома работать на кухне), and told her to be sure and have dinner ready (и сказали ей, чтобы она обязательно должна приготовить обед: «быть уверенной и приготовить обед»; sure — уверенный; обязательный, непременный; dinner — /поздний/ обед, ужин) when they came back (/к тому времени/ когда они вернутся).
When the third Sunday came, Fair and Brown went to church dressed in black satin. They left Trembling at home to work in the kitchen, and told her to be sure and have dinner ready when they came back.
After they had gone and were out of sight (после того как они ушли и /скрылись/ из виду), the henwife came to the kitchen and said (птичница пришла на кухню и сказала), "Well, my dear, are you ready for church today (ну, моя дорогая, ты готова /идти/ в церковь сегодня: «ты готова для церкви сегодня»)?"
"I would go (я бы пошла) if I had a new dress to wear (если бы у меня было новое платье: «если бы я имела новое платье чтобы носить»)."
"I'll get you any dress you ask for (я достану тебе любое платье, о котором ты попросишь; to ask — спрашивать; просить). What dress would you like (какое платье ты бы хотела)?" asked the henwife (спросила птичница).
After they had gone and were out of sight, the henwife came to the kitchen and said, "Well, my dear, are you ready for church today?"
"I would go if I had a new dress to wear."
"I'll get you any dress you ask for. What dress would you like?" asked the henwife.
"A dress red as a rose from the waist down (платье красное, как роза, вниз от талии), and white as snow from the waist up (и белое, как снег, кверху от талии); a cape of green on my shoulders (зеленую накидку мне на плечи: «на мои плечи»); and a hat on my head (и шляпу мне на голову: «на мою голову») with a red (с красным), a white (белым), and a green feather in it (и зеленым пером в ней); and shoes for my feet with the toes red (и туфли на ноги с красными мысками: «для моих ног с мысками красными»; foot /pl. feet/; toe — палец ноги; носок, мысок /сапога, чулка/), the middle white (с белой серединой), and the backs and heels green (а задниками и каблуками — зелеными; back — спина; задняя, тыльная часть /чего-л./; heel — пятка; каблук)."

The henwife put on the cloak of darkness (птичница надела плащ-невидимку: «плащ тьмы»), wished for all these things (пожелала все эти предметы одежды; thing — вещь, предмет; носильные вещи, одежда, предметы одежды), and had them (и получила их: «и имела их»). When Trembling was dressed (когда Трепещущая была одета), the henwife put the honey-bird on her right shoulder (птичница посадила медовую птицу на ее правое плечо) and the honey-finger on her left (и /положила/ медовые соты: «медовый палец» на ее левое /плечо/), and placing the hat on her head (и, /когда она/ возлагала шляпу на ее голову), clipped a few hairs from one lock (срезала немного волос: «несколько волосков» из одного локона) and a few from another (и немного: «несколько» — из другого) with her scissors (своими ножницами), and that moment the most beautiful golden hair (и в тот же момент красивейшие золотистые волосы) was flowing down over the girl's shoulders (рассыпались по плечам девушки; to flow — течь, литься; ниспадать /о платье, складках, волосах/).
The henwife put on the cloak of darkness, wished for all these things, and had them. When Trembling was dressed, the henwife put the honey-bird on her right shoulder and the honey-finger on her left, and placing the hat on her head, clipped a few hairs from one lock and a few from another with her scissors, and that moment the most beautiful golden hair was flowing down over the girl's shoulders.
Then the henwife asked (затем птичница спросила) what kind of a mare she would ride (на какой кобыле она хотела бы поехать; kind — сорт, класс; разновидность, вид). Then the henwife asked what kind of a mare she would ride. She said white, with blue and gold-coloured diamond-shaped spots all over her body, on her back a saddle of gold, and on her head a golden bridle.
