"Bless my soul!" said Schwartz when he opened the door.
"Amen," said the little gentleman, who had taken his cap off and was standing in the middle of the kitchen, bowing with the utmost possible velocity.
"Who's that (кто это)?" said Schwartz, catching up a rolling-pin (хватая скалку; to roll — катить/ся/; раскатывать /тесто/; pin — штырь; ось), and turning to Gluck with a fierce frown (и поворачиваясь к Глюку со свирепым видом; frown — сдвинутые брови; хмурый, недовольный вид; to frown — хмурить брови).
"I don't know, indeed, brother (я не знаю, братец, правда)," said Gluck in great terror (в большом ужасе/страхе = сильно испугавшись).
"How did he get in (как он вошел/проник)?" roared Schwartz (ревел/гремел Шварц).
"My dear brother (братец, дорогой)," said Gluck deprecatingly (умоляюще/оправдываясь; to deprecate — умолять; стараться отвратить мольбой /чей-либо гнев/; энергично возражать), "he was so very wet (он был такой промокший)!"
"Who's that?" said Schwartz, catching up a rolling-pin, and turning to Gluck with a fierce frown.
"I don't know, indeed, brother," said Gluck in great terror.
"How did he get in?" roared Schwartz.
"My dear brother," said Gluck deprecatingly, "he was so very wet!"

What was very odd (что очень странно = самым удивительным было то, что), the rolling-pin no sooner touched the cap than it flew out of Schwartz's hand (не успела скалка коснуться колпака, как тут же вырвалась из руки Шварца: «скалка не раньше коснулась колпака, чем вылетела из…»), spinning like a straw in a high wind (закружившись, как соломинка на сильном ветру; to spin — прясть; быстро крутить/ся/, вертеть/ся/), and fell into the corner at the further end of the room (и упала в угол на другом: «в дальнем» конце комнаты).

"Have the goodness to walk out again, then (тогда будьте любезны: «имейте любезность» снова выйти вон; goodness — доброта; великодушие; любезность)," said Schwartz. "We've quite enough water in our kitchen (у нас и так достаточно воды в кухне), without making it a drying house (не превращая ее в сушильню = чтобы еще превращать ее в сушильню; to dry — сушить; высушивать; dry — сухой)."
"Who are you, sir?" demanded Schwartz, turning upon him.
"What's your business?" snarled Hans.
"I'm a poor old man, sir," the little gentleman began very modestly, "and I saw your fire through the window and begged shelter for a quarter of an hour."
"Have the goodness to walk out again, then," said Schwartz. "We've quite enough water in our kitchen, without making it a drying house."
