I took the rock away from the boy and kind of patched up the argument (я забрал булыжник у мальчишки и кое-как уладил разногласия; kind of — вроде, отчасти; как будто; to patch — латать; восстанавливать, исправлять; argument — спор; ссора). After breakfast the kid takes a piece of leather with strings wrapped around it out of his pocket (после завтрака мальчишка достает из кармана кусок кожи, обмотанный веревкой: «с веревками, обмотанными вокруг него»; string — веревка; завязка, шнурок) and goes outside the cave unwinding it (и выходит из пещеры, разматывая его).
