The Monster, at the first motion (чудовище, при первом движении), lunged forward with a terrible scream (рванулось вперед с ужасным воплем). Eckels, not looking back (Экельс, не оглядываясь), walked blindly to the edge of the Path (пошел безрассудно к краю Тропы: blind – слепой, blindly – слепо, безрассудно), his gun limp in his arms (его ружье обвисло в его руках: limp – мягкий), stepping off the Path (сходя с Тропы), and walked, not knowing it, in the jungle (и пошел, не зная того, в джунгли). The rifles cracked again (ружья выстрелили опять: to crack – трещать, стрелять). The great level of the reptile's tail swung up (большой хвост рептилии качнулся вверх), lashed sideways (хлестнул в сторону: lash – бич, плеть; to lash – хлестать). Trees exploded in clouds of leaf and branch (деревья взорвались облаками листьев и веток). The Monster twitched its jeweler's hands down to fondle at the men (чудовище резко опустило вниз свои ручки ювелира чтобы приласкать людей), to twist them in half (скрутить их и разорвать пополам), to crush them like berries (раздавить их как ягоды), to cram them into its teeth and its screaming throat (засунуть их в свои зубы и в вопящую глотку: to cram – втискивать, обжираться). Its boulder stone eyes leveled with the men (его глаза, похожие на камни, оказались на уровне людей: boulder – булыжник, to level – уравнивать). They saw themselves mirrored (они увидели свое отражение). They fired at the metallic eyelids and the blazing black iris (они выстрелили в металлические веки и в сверкающую черную радужку: iris – радужная оболочка глаза).

Like a stone idol (как каменный идол), like a mountain avalanche (как горный обвал), Tyrannosaurus fell (тиранозавр упал).

Thundering, it clutched trees, pulled them with it (рыча, он хватался за деревья, валил их этим: to clutch – хвататься, искать опору). It wrenched and tore the metal Path (он помял и порвал металлическую Тропу: to wrench – выкручивать). The men flung themselves back and away (люди бросились назад и прочь). The body hit(тело упало: to hit – ударять(ся)), ten tons of cold flesh and stone (десять тонн холодной плоти и камня = костей). The guns fired (ружья выстрелили). The Monster lashed its armored tail (чудовище хлестнуло своим бронированным хвостом), twitched its snake jaws (дернуло змеиными челюстями), and lay still (и легло неподвижно). A fount of blood spurted from its throat (фонтан крови бил из его глотки: a fount – источник, to spurt – бить струей). Somewhere inside (где-то внутри), a sac of fluids burst (лопнул мешок с жидкостями). Sickening gushes drenched the hunters (отвратительные потоки промочили охотников). They stood, red and glistening (они стояли красные и блестящие).

The thunder faded (гром затих: to fade – постепенно исчезать, затихать).

The jungle was silent (джунгли молчали: to be silent – молчать). After the avalanche, a green peace (после обвала – зеленый мир). After the nightmare, morning (после ночного кошмара – утро).
