The princess gave the giant the comb, and said (принцесса отдала великану гребень и сказала), "The thimble that I gave you to keep last night (наперсток, который я дала тебе прошлой ночью на хранение: «дала тебе сохранить прошлой ночью») was taken from you (забрали у тебя), for the king's son in Erin brought it back to me this morning (потому что королевич из: «в» Ирландии вернул мне его: «принес его обратно» этим утром; to bring /brought/), and has done one third of the work of winning me (и выполнил одну треть работы, /чтобы/ завоевать меня), and I didn't expect you'd serve me in this way (я не ожидала, что ты так со мной поступишь: «сослужишь мне таким образом»; to serve — служить, быть слугой; обходиться /с кем-л./, поступать; way — путь, дорога; образ, метод, образ действия)."
The princess gave the giant the comb, and said, "The thimble that I gave you to keep last night was taken from you, for the king's son in Erin brought it back to me this morning, and has done one third of the work of winning me, and I didn't expect you'd serve me in this way."
When the giant heard this (когда великан услышал это), he was raging (он /стал/ гневаться; to rage), and threw the comb into the sea behind him (и бросил гребень в море позади себя). Then with Druidic spells (затем, при помощи друидических заклинаний) he raised thunder and lightning and wind (он вызвал гром, молнию и ветер; to raise — поднимать; вызывать, порождать). The sea was roaring with storm and rain (море ревело от бури и дождя); but the comb had not touched the water (но гребень /даже/ не коснулся воды) when Shaking-head caught it (когда Качающаяся голова схватил его).
When the giant heard this, he was raging, and threw the comb into the sea behind him. Then with Druidic spells he raised thunder and lightning and wind. The sea was roaring with storm and rain; but the comb had not touched the water when Shaking-head caught it.
When her talk was over (когда она закончила свою речь: «когда ее разговор был закончен») the princess gave the giant a kiss (принцесса поцеловала великана: «дала великану поцелуй»), and home she went with the maid (и пошла домой со /своей/ служанкой); but Shaking-head followed them step by step (но Качающаяся голова следовал за ними по пятам: «нога в ногу»; step — шаг; step by step — шаг за шагом; step for step /with smb./ — нога в ногу с кем-л.).
In the morning Shaking-head went to the king's son (поутру Качающаяся голова пошел к королевичу), roused him (разбудил его), and asked (и спросил), "What was your task last night (каким было ваше задание прошлой ночью)?"
When her talk was over the princess gave the giant a kiss, and home she went with the maid; but Shaking-head followed them step by step.
In the morning Shaking-head went to the king's son, roused him, and asked, "What was your task last night?"
