"The princess gave me a comb (принцесса дала мне гребень) to have for her this morning (чтобы я сохранил его для нее до этого утра: «чтобы иметь для нее этим утром»)," answered the king's son (ответил королевич).
"Where is it now (и где же он сейчас)?" asked Shaking-head.
"The princess gave me a comb to have for her this morning," answered the king's son.
"Where is it now?" asked Shaking-head.
"Here on my head (здесь, у меня на голове)," said the king's son (сказал королевич), putting up his hand to get it (поднося: «поднимая» руку /к голове/, чтобы взять его); but the comb was gone (но гребень пропал; to go /went, gone/ — идти, ходить; исчезнуть, пропасть). "I'm done for now (теперь я погиб)," said the king's son; "my head will be on the last spike today (моя голова будет на последнем колышке сегодня же) unless I have the comb for the princess (если только у меня не будет гребня для принцессы)."
"Here on my head," said the king's son, putting up his hand to get it; but the comb was gone. "I'm done for now," said the king's son; "my head will be on the last spike today unless I have the comb for the princess."
"Here it is for you (вот он для вас)," said Shaking-head, taking the comb out of his pocket (доставая гребень из своего кармана). "And now (а теперь)," said he, "the whole kingdom is coming to this castle today (все королевство приходит в этот замок сегодня) to see your head put on the last spike in the garden of King Behind the Gold (чтобы увидеть, как вашу голову насаживают на последний колышек в саду Короля /страны по ту сторону/ Золота), for all men think (потому что все люди думают) the same will happen to you (что с вами случится то же самое) that has happened to every king's son before you (что случилось со всеми королевичами до вас: «с каждым королевским сыном перед вами»). Go up on your steed (садитесь: «поднимайтесь» на своего боевого коня) and ride to the summer-house (и скачите к беседке) where the king and his daughter are sitting (где сидят король и его дочь), and give her the comb (и отдайте ей гребень)."

The king's son did as Shaking-head bade him (королевский сын сделал так, как Качающаяся голова велел ему; to bid /bade, bidden/ — предлагать цену /на аукционе, торгах/; приказывать, просить). When he saw the comb the king said (когда он увидел гребень, король сказал), "Now you have my daughter two-thirds won (теперь ты завоевал мою дочь на две трети)." But her face went from the princess entirely (на принцессе совершенно не было лица: «но ее лицо сошло с принцессы полностью»), she was so vexed (так она была раздосадована тем) that any man should know of her dealings with the giant (что какой-то человек знал о ее отношениях с великаном; dealing — распределение /чего-л. среди кого-л./, раздача, разделение; дружеские или деловые отношения).
The king's son did as Shaking-head bade him. When he saw the comb the king said, "Now you have my daughter two-thirds won." But her face went from the princess entirely, she was so vexed that any man should know of her dealings with the giant.
The third night when he was going to bed (на третью ночь, когда он собирался спать: «в постель») the princess said to the king's son (принцесса сказала королевскому сыну), "If you will not have at my father's castle tomorrow morning (если ты не принесешь: «не будешь иметь» в замок моего отца завтра же утром) the head I will kiss tonight (голову, которую я поцелую сегодня вечером), you'll die tomorrow (то завтра ты умрешь), and your own head will be put on the last spike in my father's garden (и твоя собственная голова будет насажена на последний колышек в саду моего отца)."
The third night when he was going to bed the princess said to the king's son, "If you will not have at my father's castle tomorrow morning the head I will kiss tonight, you'll die tomorrow, and your own head will be put on the last spike in my father's garden."
