The head fought to put itself on again (голова сражалась за то, чтобы снова надеться /на туловище/; to fight /fought/), and never stopped till the body was dead (и ни разу не остановилась до тех пор, пока тело не умерло; never — никогда; /эмоц.-усил./ ни разу); then it fell to the ground (после чего она упала на землю). Shaking-head seized (Качающаяся голова схватил /ее/), but couldn't stir the head (но не мог и пошевелить ту голову), — couldn't move it from its place (не мог сдвинуть ее со своего места). Then he searched all around it (затем он обыскал ее со всех сторон: «везде вокруг нее») and found a pin of slumber — ‘bar an suan’ — near the ear (и обнаружил сонную булавку: «булавку дремоты» рядом с ухом).
The head fought to put itself on again, and never stopped till the body was dead; then it fell to the ground. Shaking-head seized, but couldn't stir the head, — couldn't move it from its place. Then he searched all around it and found a bar an suan (pin of slumber) near the ear.
When he took the pin away (когда он вытащил булавку) he had no trouble in carrying the head (у него не осталось никаких трудностей с тем, чтобы унести голову; trouble — беспокойство, волнение, тревога; затруднение, трудность); and he made no delay (и он не стал задерживаться: «и он /не/ сделал никакой задержки») but came to the castle at daybreak (и пришел к замку на рассвете), and threw the head to a herd of pigs (и бросил голову /великана/ стаду свиней) that belonged to the king (принадлежавших королю: «которые принадлежали королю»). Then he went to the king's son, and asked (затем он пошел к королевскому сыну и спросил),
"What happened to you last night (что случилось с вами прошлой ночью; last — последний; прошлый)?"
When he took the pin away he had no trouble in carrying the head; and he made no delay but came to the castle at daybreak, and threw the head to a herd of pigs that belonged to the king. Then he went to the king's son, and asked,
"What happened to you last night?"
"The princess came to me, and said (принцесса пришла ко мне и сказала), that if I wouldn't bring to her father's castle this morning (что если я не принесу в замок ее отца этим утром) the head she was to kiss last night (голову, которую она собиралась поцеловать прошлой ночью), my own head would be on the last spike today (то моя собственная голова будет на последнем колышке сегодня /же/)."
"Come out with me now to the pigs (а теперь выйдем со мной к свиньям)," said Shaking-head.
"The princess came to me, and said, that if I wouldn't bring to her father's castle this morning the head she was to kiss last night, my own head would be on the last spike today."
"Come out with me now to the pigs," said Shaking-head.
The two went out (вдвоем /они/ вышли из /замка/), and Shaking-head said (и Качающаяся голова сказал), "Go in among the pigs (пройдитесь между свиней: «зайдите среди свиней»), and take the head with you to the king (и возьмите голову с собой, /чтобы отнести ее/ королю); and a strange head it is to put before a king (голова эта странная, чтобы преподнести ее королю: «и странная голова это, чтобы класть перед королем»; strange — незнакомый, неизвестный; странный)."
The two went out, and Shaking-head said, "Go in among the pigs, and take the head with you to the king; and a strange head it is to put before a king."
So the king's son went on his steed to the summer-house (итак королевский сын поехал на своем боевом коне к летнему домику), and gave the head to the king and his daughter (и отдал голову королю и его дочери), and turning to the princess, said (и, повернувшись к принцессе, сказал),
"This is the head you kissed last night (вот голова, которую вы поцеловали прошлой ночью), and it's not a nice looking head either (и к тому же голова эта некрасива; nice — хороший, приятный, милый, to look — смотреть, глядеть; выглядеть, иметь вид; -looking — компонент сложных слов: имеющий какой-л. вид; nice looking — миловидный, привлекательный)."
So the king's son went on his steed to the summer-house, and gave the head to the king and his daughter, and turning to the princess, said,
"This is the head you kissed last night, and it's not a nice looking head either."
