"You have my daughter won now entirely (теперь ты целиком завоевал мою дочь)," said the king, "and she is yours (и она твоя). The king's son mounted his steed (королевский сын вскочил на своего коня), and rode off with the head (и ускакал прочь с головой) till he came to the hole going deep into the earth (пока /не/ подъехал к яме, которая уходила глубоко в землю). When he let down the head (когда он опустил голову) it went to the bottom with such a roaring and such a noise (то она покатилась до /самого/ низа /ямы/ с таким ревом и таким шумом) that every mare (что каждая кобыла) and cow (и корова) and every beast in the whole kingdom (и каждая самка животного во всем королевстве) cast its young (выкинула своего детеныша; to cast — бросать; выкинуть, родить раньше времени /о животных/; young — молодежь; молодняк /животных/, детеныши, птенцы), such was the terror (таков был ужас) that was caused by the noise of the head (который был вызван шумом головы) in going to the bottom of the hole (/во время ее/ движения на /самое/ дно ямы; bottom — низ, нижняя часть; дно).
The king's son mounted his steed, and rode off with the head till he came to the hole going deep into the earth. When he let down the head it went to the bottom with such a roaring and such a noise that every mare and cow and every beast in the whole kingdom cast its young, such was the terror that was caused by the noise of the head in going to the bottom of the hole.
When the head was put away (избавившись от головы: «когда голова была убрана»; to put — класть, положить; to put away — убирать, прятать; отделываться, избавляться) the king's son went back to the castle (королевский сын вернулся в замок: «поехал назад в замок»), and married the daughter of King Behind the Gold (и женился на дочери Короля /страны по ту сторону/ Золота). The wedding lasted nine days and nights (свадьба продолжалась девять дней и ночей), and the last night was better than the first (и последняя ночь была лучше первой: «лучше чем первая»).

When the wedding was over (когда свадьба завершилась) Shaking-head went to the king and said (Качающаяся голова пошел к королю и сказал), "You have provided no fortune for your daughter (вы не дали никакого приданого за своей дочерью; to provide — снабжать, обеспечивать; предоставлять, давать; fortune — счастье, удача, счастливый случай; богатство, состояние), and it is but right that you should remember her (и было бы только = вполне справедливо чтобы вы одарили ее; to remember — помнить, хранить в памяти; упоминать в завещании, дарить)."
"I have plenty of gold and silver to give her (у меня есть много золота и серебра ей в подарок: «чтобы даровать ей»; plenty — изобилие, достаток; множество, избыток)," said the king.
When the wedding was over Shaking-head went to the king and said, "You have provided no fortune for your daughter, and it is but right that you should remember her."
"I have plenty of gold and silver to give her," said the king.
"It isn't gold and silver that your son-in-law wants (не золота и серебра желает ваш зять), but men to stand against his enemies (а воинов, которые встали бы против его врагов; man /pl. men/ — мужчина, человек; солдат, рядовой; to stand — стоять; занимать положение), when they come on him (когда они нападут на него; to come — идти, приходить; to come on smb. — натолкнуться на кого-л.; напасть на кого-л., атаковать кого-л.)."
"I have more treasures than men (у меня больше сокровищ, чем воинов)," said King Behind the Gold; "but I won't see my daughter conquered for want of an army (но я не хочу увидеть свою дочь побежденной из-за отсутствия армии; to conquer — завоевывать, покорять; побеждать)."
"It isn't gold and silver that your son-in-law wants, but men to stand against his enemies, when they come on him."
