"What is your name (как тебя зовут: «какое твое имя»)?" asked the king's son.
"Shaking-head (Качающаяся голова; to shake — трясти, встряхивать, сотрясать; качать /головой/)," answered the red man (ответил рыжий мужчина).
When they had gone on a piece of the way together (когда они прошли некоторой отрезок пути вместе; piece — кусок, часть) the king's son stopped and asked (королевич остановился и спросил),
"Where shall we be tonight (где нам остановиться: «где мы будем находиться» сегодня вечером)?"
"What is your name?" asked the king's son.
"Shaking-head," answered the red man.
When they had gone on a piece of the way together the king's son stopped and asked,

"We shall be in a giant's castle (мы окажемся в замке великана) where there will be small welcome for us (где нас примут не очень доброжелательно: «где будет слабое гостеприимство для нас»; small — маленький, небольшой; малый, незначительный; welcome — прием /гостя/, гостеприимство)," said Shaking-head.
When evening came (когда наступил вечер) they found themselves in front of a castle (они очутились перед замком; to find /found/ — находить, отыскивать; to find oneself somewhere — оказаться, очутиться где-л.). In they went and saw no one inside (они вошли и никого внутри не увидели) only a tall old hag (кроме высокой старой ведьмы: «только высокую старую ведьму»).
"We shall be in a giant's castle where there will be small welcome for us," said Shaking-head.

But they were not long in the place (но они недолго пробыли в том месте) till they heard a loud, rushing noise outside (когда = как они услышали грохочущий: «громкий стремительный» шум снаружи; to rush — бросаться, кидаться, мчаться, нестись; rushing — стремительный; порывистый, сильный), and a blow on the castle (и порыв ветра /пронесся над/ замком: «и порыв ветра на замке»). The giant came (пришел великан); and the first words he let out of his mouth were (и первые слова, которые он произнес, были: «которые он выпустил из своего рта…»):

Then turning to the two he said (затем, обернувшись к двум /юношам/, он сказал), "What brought you here this evening (что привело вас сюда сегодня вечером; to bring /brought/ — приносить; приводить /с собой/); what do you want in my castle (что вам нужно в моем замке; to want — хотеть, желать; нуждаться, испытывать потребность /в ком-л., чем-л./)?"
"I'm glad to have an Erinach on my supper-table to eat tonight." Then turning to the two he said, "What brought you here this evening; what do you want in my castle?"
"All the champions and heroes of Erin (все отважные воины и герои Ирландии; champion — чемпион; /поэт./ отважный воин, витязь) are going to take your property from you (собираются отнять у тебя все твое имущество) and destroy yourself (и уничтожить тебя самого); we have come to warn you (мы пришли, чтобы предупредить тебя), and there is nobody to save you from them but us (и нет никого, кто /мог бы/ спасти тебя от них, кроме нас)," said Shaking-head.
"All the champions and heroes of Erin are going to take your property from you and destroy yourself; we have come to warn you, and there is nobody to save you from them but us," said Shaking-head.
When the giant heard these words (когда великан услышал эти слова) he changed his treatment entirely (он совершенно изменил свое поведение: «обращение»). He gave the king's son and Shaking-head a hearty welcome and a kindly greeting (он оказал королевичу и Качающейся голове сердечный и любезный прием). When he understood the news they brought (когда он понял, какие вести они принесли; to understand /understood/; to bring /brought/), he washed them with the tears of his eyes (он омыл их слезами из своих глаз), dried them with kisses (обсушил их поцелуями), and gave them a good supper and a soft bed that night (и предоставил: «дал» им обильный ужин и мягкую постель на ту ночь).
