THE Shee an Gannon [the fairy of the Gannon] was born in the morning (Ши ан Ганнон [Эльф Ганонна; fairy — фея, волшебница; эльф] родился утром; to bear /bore, born/ — носить, переносить, перевозить; рождать, производить на свет), named at noon (получил имя в полдень; name — имя; to name — называть, давать имя), and went in the evening to ask his daughter of the king of Erin (и пошел вечером просить руки дочери короля Ирландии: «просить его дочь у короля Ирландии»; to ask — спрашивать; просить, требовать).

"I will give you my daughter in marriage (я отдам свою дочь за тебя замуж; marriage — брак, замужество, женитьба, супружество)," said the king of Erin (сказал король Ирландии); "you won't get her, though (однако ты не получишь ее), unless you go and bring me back the tidings that I want (если ты не пойдешь и не принесешь мне /обратно/ известия, которые я хочу), and tell me what it is (и не расскажешь мне, что это было: «что это такое») that put a stop to the laughing of the Gruagach Gaire [the laughing Gruagach; Grúagach — the hairy one] (что прекратило смех Смеющегося Груагаха [Grúagach — волосатый, лохматый]; stop — остановка, задержка; прекращение, конец; to put — класть, положить; to put a stop to smth. — положить конец чему-л.), who before this laughed always (который до этого всегда смеялся), and laughed so loud (и смеялся так громко) that the whole world heard him (что весь мир слышал его; to hear /heard/).

There are twelve iron spikes (тут есть двенадцать железных колышков) out here in the garden behind my castle (здесь снаружи, в саду за моим замком).
