The Son of the King of Erin and the Giant of Loch Lein (12/22)

@english_frank

Сын короля Ирландии и великан озера Лейн

Then two shovels were brought for him to choose from (затем ему принесли две лопаты, чтобы он выбрал одну: «две лопаты были принесены для него, чтобы выбрать из /них/»; to bring /brought/ приносить) to clean out the stable (чтобы вычистить конюшню), an old and a new one (старую и новую /лопату/). He chose the new shovel (он выбрал новую лопату; to choose /chose, chosen/ выбирать), and went to work (и приступил: «пошел» к работе; to go /went, gone/).

shovel [шАвл], choose [чУз], old [Олд], new [ньЮ]

Then two shovels were brought for him to choose from to clean out the stable, an old and a new one. He chose the new shovel, and went to work.

For every shovelful he threw out (на каждую лопату /полную грязи/, которую он выбрасывал наружу; one shovelful of smth. — количество чего-либо, помещающееся на лопате; to throw /threw, thrown/ — бросать), two came in (две /другие лопаты/ возвращались вовнутрь: «приходили внутрь»); and soon the door of the stable was closed on him (и вскоре дверь конюшни закрылась перед ним: «была закрыта для него»). When the stable-door was closed (когда дверь конюшни оказалась закрытой), the giant's daughter called from outside (дочь великана крикнула с улицы: «снаружи»): "How are you thriving now, king's son (как ты сейчас преуспеваешь = как у тебя получается, королевский сын)?"

shovelful [шОвэлфул], threw [трУ], thriving [трАйвин]

For every shovelful he threw out, two came in; and soon the door of the stable was closed on him. When the stable-door was closed, the giant's daughter called from outside, "How are you thriving now, king's son?"

"I'm not thriving at all (я не преуспеваю вовсе = ничего у меня не получается)," said the king's son, "for as much as I throw out (поскольку столько же, сколько я выкидываю наружу), twice as much comes in (в два раза больше возвращается обратно: «входит вовнутрь»), and the door is closed against me (и дверь закрыта напротив меня = и я оказался взаперти; against — против, лицом к, перед)."

"You must make a way for me to come in (ты должен сделать дорогу = проложить путь для меня, чтобы /я смогла/ войти), and I'll help you (и я помогу тебе)," said she.

"How can I do that (как я могу сделать это = как мне сделать это)?" asked the king's son (спросил королевич).

twice [твАйс], closed [клОузд], against [эгЕнст]

"I'm not thriving at all," said the king's son for as much as I throw out, twice as much comes in, and the door is closed against me."

"You must make a way for me to come in, and I'll help you," said she.

"How can I do that?" asked the king's son.

However, she did it (тем не менее, ей это удалось: «однако она сделала это»). The giant's daughter made her way into the stable (дочь великана проложила себе путь в конюшню), and she wasn't long inside (и она недолго пробыла внутри) till the stable was cleared (как конюшня была вычищена), and she saw the slumber-pin (и она увидела ту самую сонную булавку; to see /saw, seen/).

"There is the pin (вот булавка) over there in the corner (вон там, в углу)," said she to the king's son (сказала она королевскому сыну), who put it in his bosom (который положил ее себе за пазуху; to put /put/; bosom — /поэт./ грудь; пазуха) to give to the giant (чтобы отдать великану).

cleared [клИард], saw [сО], corner [кОнэ], bosom [бОзэм]

However, she did it. The giant's daughter made her way into the stable, and she wasn't long inside till the stable was cleared, and she saw the slumber-pin.

"There is the pin over there in the corner," said she to the king's son, who put it in his bosom to give to the giant.
