He obeyed the old woman, threw the ball down, and followed. All the day he was going up hill and down, across valleys and open places, keeping the ball in sight and winding the thread as he went, till evening, when he saw a hill in front, and a small light at the foot of it.
He went to the light and found a house (он пошел к огоньку = на огонек и обнаружил дом; to go /went, gone/ — ходить, идти; to find /found/ — находить, обнаруживать), which he entered (/в/ который он вошел). There was no one inside (там не было никого: «был никто» внутри) but an old woman (кроме старухи: «старой женщины») with teeth as long as a crutch (с зубами такими же длинными, как костыли: «как костыль»: tooth /pl. teeth/ — зуб).
He went to the light and found a house, which he entered. There was no one inside but an old woman with teeth as long as a crutch.
"Oh (о)! then you are welcome to my house (ну, добро пожаловать в мой дом; then — тогда, в то время; в таком случае, тогда), king's son of Erin (сын короля Ирландии)," said she. "You were with my sister last night (ты был с моей сестрой = у моей сестры прошлой ночью; last — последний; прошлый); you are with me tonight (ты /будешь/ со мной этой ночью; tonight — сегодня вечером; сегодня ночью); and it's glad I am to see you (и я рада видеть тебя: «радостно, что я должна увидеть тебя»)."
She gave him meat and drink (она дала ему еду и питье; to give /gave, given/ — давать; meat — мясо; пища) and a good bed to lie on (и хорошую постель для сна: «/чтобы/ лежать на /ней/»).
"Oh! then you are welcome to my house, king's son of Erin," said she. "You were with my sister last night; you are with me tonight; and it's glad I am to see you."

You must do what she tells you (ты должен сделать то, что она велит тебе; to tell — рассказывать; велеть, приказывать), or you'll lose your head (или = иначе ты потеряешь свою голову). You must throw this ball before you (ты должен бросить этот клубок перед собой), and follow the clew till evening (и следовать за клубком ниток до вечера)."
When he rose next morning breakfast was there before him, and when he had eaten and was ready for the journey, the old woman gave him a ball of thread, saying, "You were with my younger sister the night before last; you were with me last night; and you'll be with my elder sister tonight. You must do what she tells you, or you'll lose your head. You must throw this ball before you, and follow the clew till evening."
