They were swans in the daytime (они были лебедями днем: «в дневное время»), and women only at night (а женщинами — только ночью), so as not to be under the eye of young men (для того, чтобы не попадаться на глаза молодым людям) when these came to see the stepmother's own daughters (когда те приходили навестить родных дочерей мачехи; own — свой собственный, принадлежащий /кому-л. или чему-л./; собственный, родной).) They said, "Our sister is on an island (наша сестра находится на острове), and we'll go to her (и мы отправимся: «пойдем» к ней)."
They were swans in the daytime, and women only at night, so as not to be under the eye of young men when these came to see the stepmother's own daughters.) They said, "Our sister is on an island, and we'll go to her."
They got a boat for the young man (они взяли лодку для молодого человека; to get /got/), and went with him to where their sister was lying (и пошли с ним /к тому месту,/ где лежала их сестра). They said to her (они сказали ей),
"The son of the king of Erin is here (здесь сын короля Ирландии)."
"Let him come in (пусть он войдет), that I may look at him (чтобы я могла взглянуть на него)," said she.
They got a boat for the young man, and went with him to where their sister was lying. They said to her,
"The son of the king of Erin is here."
"Let him come in, that I may look at him," said she.
The king's son went in (королевский сын вошел), and when she saw him (и когда она увидела его) she was glad (она обрадовалась: «была рада»). "Have you anything that belongs to me (есть ли у тебя что-нибудь, что принадлежит мне)?" asked she (спросила она).
"I have (есть)."
"Then throw it on my breast (тогда брось это мне на грудь)."
The king's son went in, and when she saw him she was glad. "Have you anything that belongs to me?" asked she.
"I have."
"Then throw it on my breast."
He threw the handkerchief on her breast and went away (он бросил платок ей на грудь и ушел; to throw /threw, thrown/). Next day she rose from the bed (на следующий день она поднялась с постели) as well as ever (такой же здоровой, как всегда). On the third day after his arrival (на третий день после его прибытия), the son of the king of Erin married the eldest daughter of the king of the East (сын короля Ирландии женился на старшей дочери короля Востока), and the stepmother's enchantment was destroyed (и колдовские чары мачехи были разрушены); and there was the grandest wedding (и состоялась великолепнейшая свадьба) that ever was seen in that kingdom (которую когда-либо видели в том королевстве; to see /saw, seen/).
He threw the handkerchief on her breast and went away. Next day she rose from the bed as well as ever. On the third day after his arrival, the son of the king of Erin married the eldest daughter of the king of the East, and the stepmother's enchantment was destroyed; and there was the grandest wedding that ever was seen in that kingdom.
The king's son (королевский сын), thinking only of his bride (думая только о своей невесте), forgot all about the horse (совсем забыл о коне; to forget /forgot, forgotten/) that had brought him over the long road (который провез его по столь долгому пути). When at last he went to see him (когда же, наконец, он пошел навестить его), the stable was empty (конюшня была пуста); the horse had gone (а конь исчез; to go /went, gone/ — идти, ходить; исчезнуть, пропасть). And neither his father in Erin (и ни его отец в Ирландии) nor the stepmother came to his mind (ни его мачеха не вспоминались ему: «не приходили ему на ум»), he was living so pleasantly in the East (так приятно = счастливо он жил на Востоке).
