Next day he asked (на следующий день он спросил) had she the bread ready (испекла ли она хлеб: «имеет ли хлеб готовым»). She said she had (она сказала, что /испекла/: «имеет /готовыми/»), and she was crying bitterly all the time (и все /это/ время она горько плакала; bitter — горький /на вкус/; горький, мучительный). "I'm going to leave you now, mother (мама, сейчас я покину тебя: «собираюсь оставить тебя сейчас»)," said he; "and I'll come back (и я вернусь: «приду обратно»; back — обратно, назад) when I have found my three sisters (когда найду трех своих сестер; to find /found/)."
Next day he asked had she the bread ready. She said she had, and she was crying bitterly all the time. "I'm going to leave you now, mother," said he; "and I'll come back when I have found my three sisters."
He went away, and walked on (он ушел прочь и продолжал идти) till he was tired and hungry (пока /не/ устал и /не/ проголодался: «был уставшим и голодным»; hunger — голод); and then he sat down to eat the bread that his mother had given him (и тогда он присел, чтобы съесть тот хлеб, который его мать дала ему; to sit /sat/; to give /gave, given/), when a red-haired man came up (и в это время /к нему/ подошел рыжеволосый мужчина; red — красный; рыжий; hair — волосы; haired — волосатый, покрытый волосами; /компонент сложных слов/ имеющий такие-то волосы) and asked him for something to eat (и попросил у него что-нибудь поесть; to ask — спрашивать; просить). "Sit down here (присядь здесь)," said the boy. He sat down (он присел), and the two ate (и оба они ели /до тех пор/: «двое ели»; to eat /ate, eaten/) till there was not a crumb of the bread left (пока не осталось ни крошки хлеба: «пока не было крошки хлеба оставшейся»; to leave — оставлять).
He went away, and walked on till he was tired and hungry; and then he sat down to eat the bread that his mother had given him, when a red-haired man came up and asked him for something to eat. "Sit down here," said the boy. He sat down, and the two ate till there was not a crumb of the bread left.
The boy told of the journey he was on (мальчик рассказал о путешествии, которое он совершал: «в котором он был»; to tell /told/); then the red-haired man said (затем рыжеволосый человек сказал), "There may not be much use in your going (может быть, не много толку в твоем путешествии: «здесь может не быть много пользы, в твоем уходе»), but here are three things (но вот тебе: «здесь есть» три предмета) that'll serve you (которые тебе пригодятся: «послужат тебе»; to serve — служить; быть полезным), — the sword of sharpness (острый меч: «меч остроты»; sharp — острый, отточенный), the cloth of plenty (скатерть-самобранка: «скатерть изобилия»; cloth — ткань; скатерть; plenty — изобилие, достаток), and the cloak of darkness (и плащ-невидимка: «плащ тьмы»; dark — темный; darkness — темнота, мрак, ночь; тьма).
The boy told of the journey he was on; then the red-haired man said, "There may not be much use in your going, but here are three things that'll serve you, — the sword of sharpness, the cloth of plenty, and the cloak of darkness.
No man can kill you (никто: «никакой человек» не сможет убить тебя) while that sword is in your hand (пока этот меч в твоей руке); and whenever you are hungry or dry (и всякий раз, когда ты /будешь/ голоден, или в горле у тебя пересохнет: «или /будешь/ испытывающим жажду»; dry — сухой; /разг./ испытывающий жажду), all you have to do (все, что тебе нужно сделать) is to spread the cloth (это расстелить эту скатерть; cloth — ткань; скатерть) and ask for what you'd like to eat or drink (и попросить то, что ты бы хотел поесть или попить; to ask — спрашивать; просить; to like — любить /что-л./; хотеть, желать), and it will be there before you (и это появится перед тобой: «это будет тут перед тобой»).
No man can kill you while that sword is in your hand; and whenever you are hungry or dry, all you have to do is to spread the cloth and ask for what you'd like to eat or drink, and it will be there before you.
